It’s easy to be cynical about these things. Another rewards program? Another way to incentivize online behavior? But there’s something strangely appealing about the idea of getting paid to talk about things you already talk about. It’s like getting a bonus for being yourself, as long as “yourself” is a reasonably informed crypto enthusiast. And let’s face it, most of us are already doing that for free.
Fantasy isn’t exactly hurting for funding, either. They secured $4.25 million in seed funding last December, bringing their total raised to $6 million. That’s enough capital to fuel a lot of opinions, and a lot of ETH rewards. Whether Clout will actually change the way people interact with crypto on X remains to be seen. But it’s a fascinating experiment, and one worth watching. It’s a bet that attention is valuable, and that people will chase rewards, even if those rewards are just a little bit of digital money.
